Matthews spurs Barbados to 6-wicket win over Guyana

2018 CWI Regional Women’s Super-50

Hayley Matthews scored a rapid 84 to pilot Barbados past Guyana by 6 wickets in Friday’s second round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Women’s Super50.
For the second time in almost a week, the Windies star all-rounder has flayed the Guyanese bowlers, as her 84 required just 60 balls, and included 11 boundaries.
Matthews’s innings allowed Barbados to easily chase their target of 142 set by the Guyanese, finishing on 149-4 in a mere 23-odd overs. The opener got some help from Danielle Small, who scored 27, and the ever-consistent Kycia Knight, who scored 26.

Opener Hayley Matthews smashed a match-winning 84 for Barbados

It was a tough outing for the bowling-strong Guyanese team at the Chedwin Park Ground in Spanish Town, Jamaica; as Sheneta Grimmond toiled for her 2-43, and Mandy Mangru and Akaze Thompson chipped in with just one wicket apiece.
The Guyanese were again indebted to their skipper Shemaine Campbell, the leading run-scorer for Guyana who, despite help from Tremayne Smartt (22*), Thompson (21), and a fighting 19 from Grimmond, played the best knock, stroking 48, with five fours.
Campbell’s effort was in vain, but it continued to press a case for a Windies’ recall, as she seems to be continuing her ‘purple patch’ with the bat.
Barbados had a decent bowling outing, with Matthews showing her skill with the ball to emerge best bowler with returns of 2-30. Windies player Deandra Dottin grabbed 2-31, and there was a wicket each from Captain Shakera Selman, Shamilia Connell and Small.
Meanwhile, hosts Jamaica beat Windwards by 7 wickets, thanks to Chedean Nation’s all-round performance, hitting 72 and bagging 2-19. Stafanie Taylor scored 40.
The Windwards posted 156 all out, with Captain Stacy-Ann Adams leading with 43, and Juliana Nero was again among the runs, with 29.
Trinidad & Tobago then hammered Leewards by 188 runs, after Stacy-Ann King hit 54 and Shania Abdool 45. Leewards bowler Amanda Edwards bagged an amazing 6-56, but Trinidad won in the end after Karishma Ramharack and Kamara Ragoobar combined to take seven wickets to help defend their runs.
