Ace spinner Gudakesh Motie is two wickets away from 200 First-Class wickets in only 56 matches. Motie is fresh from a 10-wicket haul against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
According to Motie, being consistent and patient is the key to his success over a long period of time. Reflecting on the opening round of the Regional Four-Day tournament, Motie said the surface in Antigua was not one for bowlers to dominate, but he still reaped success by hitting the right areas.
“It was coming out well. The surface was two-paced and up and down. It was good for batting and bowling. I was just looking to put the ball in the right area and it worked well,” Motie said.
As it relates to preparation, Motie was also hampered by inclement weather in Guyana.
“Coming into the tournament I didn’t have too much practice because of the rain in Guyana. I was working on being consistent and patient,” the champion spinner explained.
Guyana will play the second match against the same Volcanoes outfit at the Antigua Recreational Ground. The match bowls off today, Sunday, April 19.
