In less than a week, Police ranks in F Division (Interior Locations) were successful in seizing three illegal shotguns and several rounds of live cartridges.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Jairam Ramlakhan, four persons
were arrested in relation to the gun find. He added that one of the suspects was charged on Thursday and remanded.
The first discovery was made on January 14, at Aishalton Village, South Rupununi. According to the Police, at about 12:00h on the day in question, 45-year-old Orvin Roberts of Aishalton was found in possession of an unlicensed single barrel shotgun and one live cartridge. He has since been charged and remanded until March 7.
Then sometime around 13:30h on Thursday, a 40-year-old miner of Craig, East Bank Demerara, was arrested at 23 Miles, Issano, for being in possession of an unlicensed single barrel shotgun, at his shop in Issano.
Thirty minutes later on the same day, the third gun find was made in North Rupununi. The Police said at about 14:00h, at Toka Village, North Rupununi, a 38-year-old resident of the village and his 72-year-old father-in-law were arrested after being found to be in possession of an unlicensed single barrel shotgun, two live cartridges and eight spent cartridges (empty casings).
They are currently being processed for court.
