Police yet to make arrest for Linden street vendor’s murder

Almost a week after the body of Dwane “Levi” Williams was discovered with a gaping wound to the neck, the Police are yet to make an arrest for the murder.
The dead 54-year-old, who was also known as “Sweetie Man”, of Lot 52 B Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden, was discovered on a street in the Housing Scheme on Friday.

When contacted, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Commander, Superintendent Hugh Winter told Guyana Times that detectives were still investigating the matter and several persons have so far been questioned in relation to the incident.
Williams’ body was discovered by alerted residents who summoned Police to the scene. His body was discovered with a gaping wound to the neck and another wound to the right wrist.
A resident who spoke with this publication on Friday said a knife was observed in a drain a short distance away from the body. While details surrounding the street vendor’s death remain sketchy, investigators suspect that the man who lived alone died some time between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
According to a relative, Williams visited his mother’s home at One Mile, Wismar, at approximately 21:00h on Thursday and spent a few minutes, after which he told family members that he was leaving to go home and prepare his meals.
The relative further stated that about 05:45h the following day, they received information from persons in the area that his body was lying behind a shack.
The scene was searched by Police and a knife suspected to be the murder weapon was found. Police said the area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, but none were found. The family is calling for the Guyana Police Force to bring the perpetrators to justice.
