President Ali wishes President Trump, First Lady speedy recovery
President Irfaan Ali on Saturday sent a letter to United States President, Donald Trump, wishing him and First Lady Melania Trump a speedy recovery after the couple tested positive for COVID-19.
In his letter to President Trump, Ali said: “I convey, on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, and on my own behalf, our best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery to you and First Lady Melania Trump.”
The letter stated that the coronavirus pandemic makes no geographic, social or economic distinctions. It represents a threat to all humanity.
“It is imperative that states collaborate and cooperate, as they strive to overcome this dreaded disease. Allow me, in this regard, to express my Government’s profound gratitude and appreciation for the assistance rendered to Guyana, by the United States, as we wage our battle against this pandemic,” President Ali wrote.
He added that Guyana looks forward to continued collaboration between the United States of America and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in this and other areas.
“Please be assured that our prayers are with you, and the First Lady, during your recuperation,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, Al Jazeera reported that US President Donald Trump, who is being treated for COVID-19 in a military hospital outside Washington, said in a video on Saturday that he was feeling ill when he arrived at the facility but now feels better.
“I’m starting to feel good,” he said in the video, adding, “Over the next period of a few days – I guess that’s the real test. We’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days”.
According to the Al Jazeera report, the address by President Trump came hours after differing assessments of his health from administration officials left it unclear how ill the President had become since he tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday night.
A White House team of doctors said on Saturday morning that Trump’s condition was improving and that he was already talking about returning to the White House.
