ꟷ Minister Norton urges youths to continue to excel
Youth footballer Rudolph Cameron of River’s View village on the Essequibo River created history by scoring the first ever goal to be scored on the brand new sports ground unveiled by that village last Saturday.
The new facility, a product of wide collaboration between the Government of Guyana and the residents of the village, has been in the making for a number of months.
River’s View Toshao Kenneth Edwards, in thanking all who contributed to making the playfield a reality, said the hard work of many had resulted in great development for the village.
He predicted that the facility would greatly help to boost potential of the many talented youths of River’s View.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Sport, Dr. George Norton, charged the villagers to make full use of the facility and also to produce fruits for development.
“This is, without doubt, one of the best sports grounds in the country. It is therefore expected that the youths of River’s View, both males and females, will continue to excel in the field of sports. We hope in the near future not only to produce international athletes, but to also host international athletes on this facility”, the minister said.
President of the Bartica Football Association, Alden Marslowe, congratulated and encouraged the community on behalf of the BFA and the Guyana Football Federation.
Following the opening ceremony, an Under-17 encounter was played between River’s View and Bartica, with the hosts emerging victors via a 2-nil victory. Scoring for River’s View were Rudolph Cameron and Kellon Richardson.
River’s View Football Club are the current BFA champions, having won the 2018-2019 Senior League.
