The Guyana Police Force has expanded its investigative methods, this time using a sniffer dog to recover an illegal weapon and ammunition that were concealed in a taxi driver’s car door.
According to Police reports, based on intensive intelligence gathering, ranks conducted a search on a taxi driver of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and his vehicle at the Brickdam Police Station on Wednesday.
In the initial search, the ranks came up empty handed but, determined, decided to utilise one of its sniffer dogs which is trained in the detection of firearms and explosive devices.
The Canine named “ACE”, under the guidance of its handler, led ranks to the left front door panel. Upon further inspection by opening same, the ranks found an unlicensed .38 Smith and Wesson revolver along with five live matching rounds.
The taxi driver was arrested and is expected to be charged shortly.
