3rd Annual Commander “A” Division 5-a-side Football…
Tiger Bay Boys team claimed the third annual Commander “A” Division 5-a-side Futsal tournament yesterday, beating North Ruimveldt 2-1 in extra time at the National Gymnasium.
Top goal scorer Orin Moore netted late into extra time to win the title for his team, the double being respectively his 9th and 10th goals of the tournament. Earlier in the day, the Tiger Bay Boys began the tournament in a dominant fashion by dismantling Yarrowcabra 7-1 in their opening fixture.
Deron Niles of Albouystown was adjudged MVP, while Orin Moore copped the Golden Shoe.
In the Girls’ tournament, Albouystown defeated East Ruimveldt 1-0 as MVP Royestia Cossou scored to secure the trophy. Teams from 21 communities across “A” Division participated in the competition as part of the Guyana Police Force’s Crime Prevention Plan. Communities such as Yarrowcabra, Tiger Bay, Circuit-Ville, North Ruimveldt, East Ruimveldt, Mocha, Grove and Albouystown had fielded teams in the event.
Speaking to Guyana Times Sport, Woman Inspector Blair McGregor noted that it is a part of the GPF’s initiative to keep the youths of the various communities gainfully occupied. She noted that sports is the ideal outlet for the youngsters.
