Construction of a new roundabout in the vicinity of the Timehri Police Station is set to commence shortly, the Public Works Ministry has announced.
The Ministry said on Wednesday the works will affect motorists, businesses, residents, and commuters using the Timehri Junction, with traffic management measures put in place to minimise disruptions and maintain safety during construction.

Ahead of the project, the Ministry conducted a public consultation involving 44 stakeholders within the project area. These included seven major institutions, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Laparkan, the Guyana Prison Service, the Guyana Fire Service, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Marriott and Phoenix LTB.
The consultation also included 15 small businesses, two schools and 20 residents.
Construction will initially focus on the roadside drain at the north-eastern section of the junction, adjacent to the Timehri Police Station. During this phase, one lane will be temporarily closed.
As work progresses to the main roundabout structure, two-way traffic will be maintained along the western carriageway.
According to the Ministry, a dedicated emergency access lane will also be maintained at the entrance to the Timehri Police Station to allow emergency vehicles to enter and exit without interruption, under the guidance of police officers.
Traffic cones, barriers, high-visibility warning devices and directional signs will be placed throughout the work zone. Officers from the Guyana Police Force Traffic Department will also be deployed to assist with traffic management.
Motorists travelling through the Timehri Junction are being urged to exercise caution, reduce their speed to 30 km/h, and comply with all traffic signs and directions from police officers.
The Ministry said the measures are intended to minimise inconvenience to road users while the infrastructure works are underway.
