A 45-year-old man of Cummings Street, Georgetown, was killed after the All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) he was on collided with a truck in North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).
Dead is Nigel Knights. Police said Knights was one of two pillion riders that were on the ATV when the accident occurred.
The other pillion rider, 39-year-old Leslie Norton of Highma Top Backdam, NWD, is in serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
It was reported that the accident occurred around 11:00h along the Eye Lash Access Road. The ATV was driven by Rovin James, 36, of Charity, Essequibo Coast at the time.
The ATV was reportedly speeding down a hill when James lost control and collided with the truck GZZ 4598. The truck was being driven by Ryan Vanlange, 38, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
As a result of the collision, Knights, Norton and James were tossed off the ATV and fell onto the road.
Knights was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital ,where he was pronounced dead, while Norton was in a semi-conscious state and was later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital via a private aircraft for further medical treatment.
Police said James and Vanlange have been served with notices of intended prosecution as investigations continue.
James was also arrested and taken to Matthews Ridge Police Station. (G9)
