CG United Regional Super50: Eagles looking to enhance position against Pride today

The Guyana Harpy Eagles are gearing up to enhance their standing on the points table in the CG United Regional Super50 tournament as they prepare to face Barbados Pride today. Currently positioned at sixth place with 15 points from two wins in four matches, the Eagles are eyeing a climb in rankings.
Barbados Pride, also with two wins, hold the third spot with 22 points, courtesy of the bonus points system which rewards teams for achieving specific performance targets during the match. These targets encompass runs and wickets during powerplays, reduced ‘dot ball’ percentage, centuries by batsmen, five-wicket hauls by bowlers, and run-outs by fielders.

Tevin Imlach

For the Guyana Harpy Eagles, success hinges on their batting prowess as they confront the formidable Barbados Pride bowling attack. Tevin Imlach, the team’s most consistent batter, has emphasized the importance of a strong batting performance, especially after achieving his highest List A score of 80 in the last match.
Imlach has been a standout performer with 241 runs at an impressive average of 44. Sherfane Rutherford follows closely with 170 runs, including an unbeaten 105 in four innings. Notably, no other Eagles batsman has reached the half-century mark, with only Kevin Sinclair touching the 40s.
The onus is on West Indies batters Tagenarine Chanderpaul (79 runs), Shimron Hetmyer (59 runs), and Romario Shepherd (55 runs) to contribute more significantly. Their performance will set the standard for emerging players like Quinten Sampson, Kevlon Anderson and Kemol Savory.
While the batting lineup seeks improvement, Guyana’s bowling has been a pillar of strength. Led by the veteran Veerasammy Permaul, the bowling unit, consisting of Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, and Shepherd, has demonstrated professionalism. The support from Nial Smith and Rutherford has further strengthened the team’s bowling prowess.
To gain an early advantage, the Eagles need the collective efforts of their frontline bowlers, especially against the in-form Kyle Mayers, who recently notched up a scintillating century. Mayers, supported by captain Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks, poses a formidable challenge, but none of them has dominated bowling attacks consistently.
Conversely, Barbados Pride rely on their bowlers, with seamers like Dominic Drakes and Jair McAllister, and consistent performers such as Jomel Warrican, Chase, and Javed Leacock. As both teams are familiar with each other, the stage is set for an enthralling showdown at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground today.
