It continued to rain goals on the second day of the sixth annual Milo Schools Football tournament as seventeen goals were score at Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue on Sunday.
Ten of those goals were scored by Masters Academy in their 10-0 trouncing of Queenstown Secondary which was led by the dynamic Calvin Peters who netted five goals. Peters converted in the 4th, 8th, 26th, 29th, 34th and 69th minutes. He was ably assisted by Troyne Khan, Mario Eastman (15th), (16th & 44th) and Isaiah Anderson (69th).
Sir Leon Lesson were also on the winning side as they comfortably defeated Uitvlugt Secondary 3-0, with Julian Bamfield and Zian Gray giving their team the lead by half-time with goals in the 4th and 30th respectively; Shamr Carrington hammered the last nail in the coffin with a penalty in the 63rd.
The first drawn match for this year came between Charlestown Secondary and South Ruimveldt with their 2-2 score line. The back and forth affair saw Raymond Bandhu putting Charlestown ahead in the 8th followed by Robert Downes in the
21st. Four minutes later Negal McBean reduced the lead for South and Jamal Nedd levelled it in the 41st.
The under-18 tournament which is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Public Health under theme “there is no excuse for violence” will continue this weekend at the same venue.
On Saturday, Ann’s Grove Secondary clash with Dolphin Secondary from noon followed by top Linden side Christianburg Secondary against Vergenogen Secondary from 13:30 hrs; the final match from 15:00 hrs will be Lodge Secondary and Queen’s College.
The following day at the same starting times as mentioned, Annandale Secondary and Friendship Secondary clash then exciting Bishops’ High face a tough task in Pure Masters. It then sets the tone for 2017 runners-up Morgan Learning Centre and School of the Nations.
Teams will be hoping to secure the first place prize of $500,000 which goes towards a school project. Second to fourth, will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively which also go towards school projects.
