North Georgetown demolish Central High 10-0

In a day where 21 goals were scored, North Georgetown Secondary hammered 10 into Central High as the fifth annual Petra Organised Milo Schools Under-18 Football Tournament continued at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta on Sunday.

Nehemiah Gomes was the torn in the flesh of the Smyth Street-unit as he netted five goals, scoring in the 9th, 21st, 28th, 56th and 58th. He was supported by Rueben Miller who etched his name on the score sheet twice, first in the 36th then in the 62nd. An own goal in the 5th and additional goals from Marcos DeLima (38th) and Brandon Solomon (39th) accounted for the other three goals.

School of the Nations were also on the winning side as they defeated Dolphin Secondary 3-0 via goals from brothers Benjonel and Andy Parkes. Benjonel landed the first of his double in the 55th, with the next being the 67th; Andy scored in the 64th.

Similarly, St. George’s High edged a determine Mae’s Academy 3-2 after Anthony Pierre scored the winning goal in the 67th. Pierre had earlier scored in the 7th and teammate Oren Williams in the 45th.

For the opposition, Diego Britton (34th) and Darshan Persaud (56th) gave their side hope of walking away with a point.

In the final match of the day, Tutorial High came from behind to defeat Queen’s College 2-1. The Camp Road side had held the early lead in the 25th when Gaven Houston made a conversion. However, a first half double by Zion Gary orchestrated the victory after he scored in the 25th and 35th.

Thirty two secondary schools across Georgetown are competing for the $500,000 first prize while second, third and fourth placed finishers will pocket $300 000, $200 000 and $100 000 respectively, that will go towards a school project.

The tournament is set to continue this weekend at the aforementioned venue.
