GABA league
Action in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA)/ Malta Supreme/ Rainforest Waters/ Powerade League continued over the weekend and Pacesetters, Eagles and Nets all notched up respective victories.
The four games were played at the Burnham Court on Middle and Carmichael streets and saw the Plaisance Guardians taking on Pacesetters in a Division one encounter which the Pacesetters duly won by 63-59 points.
Plaisance led at the end of the first quarter with the score at 18-14 in their favour but relinquished that lead in the second and third quarters with the Pacesetters rebounding nicely to win a close game.
In game two, an under-23 clash, the Pacesetters U-23 team racked up a comfortable victory by beating the Kobras 75-67. The Pacesetters were behind in the first quarter but like their 1st division counterparts, they rebounded and won comfortably.
In the second U-23 clash of the night, the Eagles handed the Plaisance Guardians a loss defeating them by 78-68 points, leading in all quarters.
In the final game of the night, a 1st division clash between the Nets and the Pepsi Sonics; the Nets outscored their rivals to end up 77-60 victors.
In the first quarter the Nets led by 15-14 and 20-11 in the second, however the Pepsi Sonics did well to be on level terms in the third quarter scoring 18 points but it was not enough as the Nets inflicted a fourth quarter drubbing as they sank 25 points to end the game at 77-60.
The league will now go on a two-week break after which matches will resume on Sunday September 24 at the same venue.
