Simon powers Dave and Celina All-stars to title

Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Linden Zone…

A brilliant helmet-trick by Kenard Simon ensured crowd favourites Dave and Celina All-Stars empathically won the Linden Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Championship in the wee hours of Sunday morning at the McKenzie Market Tarmac.

It was a high intensity final for the early stages until the All-stars took a toll on Swag Entertainment

The All-stars, who were arguably the top pick heading in the finale against Swag Entertainment inflicted a 5-0 thumping.  Simon led the route by scoring in the 6th, 25th, 26th and 35th while Keon added the other in the 8th.
Swag Entertainment certainly lacked the style and class to breach what was an air-tight defence by the All-stars. From when Simon slipped the ball into the box from the right side, it became more of one-side show but still a treat for the sizable crowd in attendance.
For the win, the All-stars pocketed $400,000 and the championship trophy while Swag had to settle for $150,000 and their corresponding accolade; both teams are guaranteed a spot in the National Play-offs.
Meanwhile, in the third place fixture, Jermaine and Family Silver Bullets defeated 2016 Champions Team 25 by a 2-0 margin.   It was Robin Adams (10th) and Jermaine Samuels (35th) who ensured they walked away with $75,000 while Silver Bullets secured $50,000 and their respective trophies.
With  zones completed in Georgetown, West  and East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and Berbice, the championships will now  move to Bartica in the second week of June, after which the National Play-offs will be held.
