Home News 1st Diocesan Priest in 3 decades ordinated
The nation’s first Diocesan Priest in over three decades was on Sunday ordinated at an exquisite service, which was held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Brickdam, Georgetown.
The ceremony saw scores of churchgoers and Government officials gathering to celebrate the rare event as it was specially planned for the ordination of Deacon Carl Anthony Philadelphia and was convened by Bishop Francis Dean Alleyne.
Like any other church service, there were a series of hymns and Bible verse recitals before the auspicious moment. The 36-year-old Philadelphia had to be found worthy by his colleagues and had to affirm his commitment to the office he was about to hold.
The event saw the presence of First Lady Sandra Granger and Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo’s wife, Seeta. The congregation cheered on as the newly-appointed Priest took on his new robes.
The newly-christened Father Carl, in a lengthy speech, expressed nothing but gratitude to God, his family, colleagues and his church. He noted that he has come a long way and has a far way to go.
Father Carl’s first mass will be held today, January 29 at the Lady of Fatima Church.
