A long-time goal for Slingerz Football Club (FC) will come to fruition today when they begin their journey in the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Club Shield.
A reward of being the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League 2025 champions, Slingerz will begin their Club Shield campaign in the first round, taking on the Turks and Caicos Islands’ SWA Sharks FC at 13:30h today.
A win will plunge the Guyanese club into the Round of 16, setting up a date with Trinidad and Tobago’s Prison Service. Ultimately, Slingerz will be gunning for one of two spots on offer in the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, which will be seized by the Club Shield’s two finalists.
Speaking ahead of their departure from Guyana, Slingerz FC Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz discussed their preparation and readiness for the regional showpiece.
Shabazz told this publication, “Very proud of the effort the guys have made in the training sessions leading up to our departure. Good competitive work; some of the sessions were so intense they almost ended in fights, and you know, I’m pleased that the effort was there going into Trinidad now.”
Quizzed on what the squad needed to polish up on before their first matchup, the coach highlighted some areas.
