Bartica successfully launches Academy Training Centre

Over the course of the weekend, the Bartica Football Association saw the launching of its Academy Training Centre, election of the Vice President of the Guyana Football Coaches Association, and some football action after a hiatus because of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

In spite of a harsh afternoon thunderstorm, the Bartica Football Association managed to pull off the launch of its Academy Training Centre.
With short addresses by BFA President Alden Marslowe, Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams and GFF President Wayne Forde, the academy was declared open.

The following schedule of training days was announced:

* Mondays at 4:30pm – Under-13
* Wednesdays at 4:30pm – Under-15
* Fridays at 4:30pm – Under-17
* Saturdays at 9:00am – Grassroots.
The academy is open to both males and females, and is part of the association’s youth development programme, with support from the GFF’s Members’ Financial Assistance Programme.
A COVID-19 vaccination drive conducted by personnel from the Bartica Hospital was also part of the day’s activities.

Launching of the Academy Training Centre

ches Association on Sunday held its Annual General Meeting wherein its executive committee was elected to serve for the next two years.
Information reaching the Bartica Football Association indicated that local Coach Curtis Joseph was elected Vice-President at the forum, with National Coach Sampson Gilbert elected President.
Coach Curtis Joseph serves as the Technical Director of the Bartica Football Academy Training Centre and Head Coach of the BFA.
Also, to round off the weekend of action, an Under-17 encounter between Timehri Panthers FC and Rising Stars FC of Bartica ended in a nil-all draw at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
However, an impromptu offer of one trophy to the winners by the Bartica Stelling Crew urged the match to go straight to kicks from the penalty spot, and the Timehri Panthers emerged winners by a 4-3 margin.
The match was organised as a complement to the launch of the Bartica Football Academy Training Centre which took place prior to the game. A female friendly also preceded the Under-17 match.
Among the hundred in attendance were President of the GFF, Wayne Forde; Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams; BFA President Alden Marslowe, and other local and Timehri football officials.
