Leeward Islands Hurricanes were bowled out for 268 in their second innings following on setting Guyana Jaguars a target of one run to win their fifth match in this season’s Digicel Regional Four-Day Tournament on Saturday at Providence.
The 10-wicket win, inside three days was engineered by Man of the Match Anthony Bramble with an unbeaten 196 in the Jaguars first innings coupled with eight dismissals in the match.
However, the Hurricanes did put up a much better showing with the bat in the second innings which was lead by Akeem Saunders with his maiden First Class century. He was well supported by Shane Burton with 53 as they put on 91 runs for the fourth wicket before he partnered with Jahmar Hamilton for a 76-run stand for the fifth wicket.
After the trio was dislodged, it was all over for the Hurricanes who never looked threatening after the opening session on Thursday.
They began the third day on 114 for 9 with the last pair of Mervin Mathew and Jeremiah Louis at the crease. They batted for 27 minutes in putting on 35 runs for the last wicket before the Hurricanes folded for 149. With a deficit of 268, Leon Johnson immediately enforced the follow-on which saw the Hurricanes getting to 268 to ensure Guyana Jaguars had to make a single for their fifth win of the season.
In their first innings, Veerasammy Permaul picked up six for 32 while in the second innings the seamers shared six wickets. Romario Shepherd was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.
The Jaguars will now have a happy holiday break as they have extended their lead from the rest of the teams. They will next meet the Jamaica Scorpions at Sabina Park when the tournament resumes in round eight on January 4 while the Hurricanes will travel to the Queen’s Park Oval to meet the Red Force.
