The Meten-Meer-Zorg Masters have defeated a full strength Everest squad by 21 runs in the Ronold “Sticky” Jaisingh’s 50th Birthday Anniversary 25 Overs friendly match played at Everest.
Batting first after winning the toss, MMZ Masters were off to a slow start, and the Everest bowlers kept things tight by bowling wicket to wicket; thus, at the end of the 15th over, Meten-Meer-Zorg were on 82 for 2. However, the West Side team picked up the pace in the last 10 overs to finish at 180 for 6.
Chabiraj Ramcharran top scored for MMZ Masters with a workmanlike 73, which included four sixes and four fours. He was well supported by Sham Persaud on 24 not out, Jetendra Kishore on 21, and Muneshwar Balgobin who contributed a resistant 20.
The pick of the Everest bowlers was Imtiaz Sadik, who returned figures of 3-33 from his five overs.
In reply, Everest were made to work hard for the runs they scored. The MMZ Masters could have finished the match early, had they not somehow managed to drop six catches in the field.
Saheed Mohamed and Hemraj Garbarran put on 45 for the second wicket, which fell when Mohamed was caught on the boundary for 47, which included three sixes and three fours. Garbarran continued to fight for his team, but was caught for a well played 78, which comprised of two sixes and seven fours. No other batsman managed to reach fifteen, as the Everest innings ended at 159-8.
Sham Persaud was excellent with the ball, picking up 3-25. All three batsmen were stumped in his last over by Zamal Khan. Vinod Rajkumar supported with 2-28.
Chabiraj Ramcharran was adjudged ‘man of the match’.
