Persaud rates Intermediate Clinic a success

The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) wrapped up their first coach’s clinic for 2018 at the National Aquatic Centre on Sunday.

Following the conclusion of the five-day Clinic hosted by Columbian Internationally certified coach, Fabio Toro, President of the Association Ivan Persaud stated that the Intermediate Level Clinic was by far the best they ever had and also highest level.

Persaud told Guyana Times Sport, the level of information that was received they were very grateful for. He said the ‘hands-on’ workshop type clinic where the participants could actively be a part of session is exactly what Guyana needs.

It was a historic event since Guyana and Suriname have never collaborated for a clinic. This clinic saw 30 local coaches and seven Surinamese attending. The GASA President believed this clinic was a great programme and a great start to the year with two other clinic’s scheduled for the June/July and October/November seasons.

Persaud said it was an honour to work alongside his mentor translating for the contingent, refreshing what he knows and also learning more about the sport.

GASA has made arrangements to attend another higher level course in Surinamese within a few months. However, in the 2019, there will be Officials and Novice certification for persons desirous of getting involved in the sport.

This course was approved by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) who play a major part in GASA’s progression.
